Aunt Cynthia's Cabin
Aunt Cynthia's Cabin
The eerie, neo-psychedelic sound of Aunt Cynthia’s Cabin paints a nostalgic picture of fuzzed-out, California desert rock. The San Diego trio's latest release, Mud Room #13, delivers a blend of fuzzy stoner rock grooves and western desert-rock atop a Bonzo-esque drum sound, hinting at influences from The Brian Jonestown Massacre, All Them Witches and Nirvana. The space captured in the recordings, the airy rumbling guitars and hard-hitting drum sound brings the listener straight to the setting of the narrative. The self-recording trio proves to be well schooled in the art of recording and audio engineering, using far-away room microphones, distortion and natural reverb to create their indistinguishable desert sound. The eeriness of “nothing” begins to blend with the beauty of solitude. Themes of anxiety and paranoia manifest in relatable metaphors swallowed in the isolated surroundings of our sun beaten journey. By the end of Mud Room #13, we have experienced nothing less than a trip out of the city and across the desert floor, along the way peeking into the minds of a band that we know we should have heard before.

The independent garage trio is comprised of San Diego’s Brennan Justice (guitar, lead vocals), Anthony Defreitas (bass, vocals) and Jeremy Luvaas (drums, percussion). Emerging from the ruins of a disbanded surf rock band, Justice and Defreitas developed their signature western tones with an excessive use of spring reverb, translating now to the ethereal, dusty sound of psychedelic desert-rock. The band writes, records and produces all their own music out of a garage and their private studio space. Their initial effort, 7” split On The Mountain released February 2018, debuted the group’s original track On The Mountain alongside an eerie, psychedelic B-Side cover of Neil Diamond's "Solitary Man". Their cover of "Solitary Man" gained an unforseen European momentum, landing a spot on a 3-disc vinyl compilation from French throw-back psych label Fruits de Mer Records.

Aunt Cynthia's Cabin will be releasing their Cabin Fever EP on vinyl, featuring additional tracks from Mud Room #13 and 7" split On The Mountain, on Feedbands records in June 2019.
Desert Suns
Desert Suns
In that space where psychedelia, blues-rock, doom and sludge coalesce, it’s there you’re likely to find Desert Suns. Formed in late 2013, from the outset the Californian four-piece demonstrated a versatility rarely seen amongst their contemporaries. In no time at all they wrote, recorded and released their debut single ‘Burning Temples’ in January of 2014, and by the summer they had already started to unload an arsenal of new sounds.
Their self-titled debut was released on August 16th 2014 and reassured fans that they were far from one hit wonders. Containing haunting lyrics of alienation with compelling hooks, an addictive and atmospheric energy and heavy, pulsating beats, fans of early ’70s proto-metal acts such as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Blue Cheer will appreciate the classic grooves exhibited here on storming tracks like ‘Ten Feet Down’ and album closer ‘Run Through My Roots’.
Gaining even more attention in late 2014 after their song ‘Space Pussy’ was featured on Classic Rock Magazine’s cover mount compilation The Levee Breaks and sharing an unmistakable affinity with modern stoner rockers bands such as Fu Manchu and Graveyard.
Mastered by renowned multi-instrumentalist Tony Reed (Mos Generator/Stone Axe) at HeavyHead Recording Co in Washington, Desert Suns will be released in North America on 15th January on vinyl/CD through Ripple Music and on LP in the UK through HeviSike Records.
